Department of Conservation Studies
Hazara University established Department of Conservation Studies in 2008, to explore, identify and preserve the rich cultural heritage & biological resources of Pakistan on scientific basis for coming generations. It is the unique department and its degree is only offered in Pakistan by Hazara University. The mission of conservation studies is to produce well-educated and highly competent graduates for 21st century who can keep pace with the ever-changing requirements of the modern world with vision, courage, wisdom and devotion. Department of conservation studies has established “Archaeological Teaching Conservation & Research Laboratory” (ATCRL) to fulfill the practical and research requirements of students.
Department of Conservation Studies took start with 2 disciplines, M.Sc & BS programmes but now department is also offering degrees of M.Phil and Ph.D. Conservation Studies is a multi-disciplinary subject in which we offer following courses: Architectural Conservation, Textile conservation, conservation of photographic materials, bone and ivory conservation, paper conservation, metal conservation, wood conservation, forest conservation, wild life conservation, food preservation, Paleoethnobotany, Zoo archaeology, Environmental Archaeology, Cultural heritage Management , Collection Risk Management, Museology, Museum & Archaeological Site management etc. The department also offers specialization in each of above subjects.
A degree in Conservation unlocks a wide range of exciting career opportunities, especially in research and development institutions. There is also a good chance to seek jobs in Federal, Provincial and Private organizations like Archaeology, Archives, Auqaf, Wildlife, IUCN, Forest, Pakistan Army Museums, Pakistan Navy Museums, PAF Museums, Supreme Court Museum, Pakistan Railway Museums, private Museums in Pakistan and abroad. Possible career opportunities recruitment to public bodies ( Superintendence, Regions, Provinces, Municipalities, conservatories, libraries, film libraries, Photographic libraries) or private (with opera companies, , foundations involved in cultural activities, publications; Construction Companies) or company / service cooperatives for the 'organization of excavations, art shows and museums, archaeological parks projects, cultural events NGO’s etc.
