After establishing the excellent standards in general education, I am pleased that they have established their professional wing to impart knowledge to the young students interested in the excellence of health profession, especially the knowledge about medicine, their effects on human body, side effects, drug-drug interaction in the body and manufacture of drugs in country, thus reducing the expenditure on import of medicines from abroad. The traditions of modern education under the supervision of sincere and devoted teachers attracting the students from allover the country to Abbottabad is very old. This is one of the reasons that Abbottabad is a peaceful city where the lovers of education flock from the distant places of the country. This was stated by Prof. Dr. Syed Sakhawat Shah, Vice Chancellor Hazara University Mansehra while addressing the faculty, students and parents at Annual Parents Day / Prize Distribution Ceremony at Pakistan Institute of Professional Studies (PIPS), Abbottabad. He said, "Hazara University is focusing to strengthen the quality education in its affiliated institutions. For the purpose, we have taken various steps in this regard. We appreciate the role and efforts of the private institutions, which is a source for the imparting higher education by providing the opportunities at the doorsteps of the students of rural and urban areas". He further said that I have been pleased to learn that PIPS is playing its role and responsibility of delivering education in the specific fields in a very systematic and orderly manner. Educational institutions are known in the world by their faculty, researcher and the students, which they sent in the job markets. Your competitive spirit and good performance in the examination to earn such a valuable degree of Pharm-D and profession carries great importance as you will have to deal with the pharmaceutical products flooding the markets. Unfortunately we have no reliable system to check the quality, contents and the genuineness of the medicines, which are found in the proliferated medicine market. The spurious drugs have been causing a great threat to the human life but the so-called quacks in lust for money and material gains are so reckless that they play with the human life. We daily read in the newspapers and also have the common experience that these fake drugs are taking the human lives indiscriminately. So you as a graduate in Pharmacy will have to shoulder a great responsibility to check the quality of the medical products which can be purchased by the general public some time even without the prescription of a registered medical practitioner. As qualified pharmacists it would be your ethical and moral responsibility to use your knowledge and capability, in the field, for interest of human life and check the quality of the drugs in the open market to distinguish between original and fake product. In the developed countries the Chemists will never hand over a customer the medicine without the prescription of the registered doctor. But unfortunately in our country and in the rest of the third world such restrictions have never been imposed. The Vice Chancellor distributed shields and certificates among those students whose performance was remarkable during annual examinations 2011. Vice Chancellor also inspected the laboratories, library and classrooms of the institutions and showed his satisfaction with the standards and facility. Earlier, the Chairman, PIPS Dr. Manzar Ejaz, Managing Director, Usman Daud and Chairman Pharmacy Ikhlaq Ahmad welcomed the guests and highlighted the achievements and developments of the institutions.
