Introduction

      Chemistry is one of the natural sciences that deal with the study of compositions and properties of matter. It is the science that is poised strategically between the biological sciences and physical sciences.

      The Chemistry has now become essential in practically all the arts and sciences studies as well as the operation of the industry. Chemists, therefore find jobs in many fields. A Chemistry degree unlocks a wide range of existing careers especially in Research and Development, Institutions, in Industry, Agriculture and Education.

      Keeping in view the significance of Chemistry, Hazara University has started its Master's Degree Program in Chemistry since Aug 2003. At the end of the semester, 2005, there were four running semesters of MSc Chemistry, with 180 students enrolled in this Program.

      Different courses are being taught in MSc chemistry and during the running semester of BSc (IV) Program for understanding organic, Inorganic, analytical and physical chemistry.

      In physical chemistry, Hazara University specially focuses on Quantum chemistry, Statistical Mechanics, Solid State Chemistry and nuclear & Radiation chemistry. In Organic chemistry Hazara University focuses on chemistry of natural products, Stereochemistry, Organic Synthesis and Biochemistry.

      Hazara University focuses on chemical crystallography, Environmental chemistry, Coordination chemistry and Industrial chemistry. Different Experiments are designed for the thorough understanding of all courses. All necessary equipment for experimental work is available in the university i.e. calorimeters, Refrectometers, thermometers, UV-visible spectrophotometers, shaking water baths, stop watches, conductivity meters, PH meters etc.

      To fulfil the needs of students for practical and research, there are Chemistry Labs, equipped with latest sophisticated instruments like UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. Flame Photometers, HPLC, Conductometers, Gas Chromatograph etc. The labs have the sufficient required glassware and chemicals.

      Hazara University has also the facility of high-speed digital library, which is being used by the students to keep themselves abreast with the latest knowledge and findings in the subject.
